We just went to Maru Sushi and Grill for the very first time on 1/28/23! We were greeted warmly and seated at a table very quickly. The atmosphere was very warm and relaxing. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and they all arrived to our table in a nice timely manner! We had menu questions and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions very well! We each made an order of sushi and soon the wonderful food arrived…it was so delicious and such a great combination of flavors! We will become regulars for sure!!!! The SUSHI WAS SUPER FRESH and SO YUMMY!!!!

Food quality and service was outstanding! Definitely worth it. The caterpillar roll was super adorable with a little face. We loved it. Thank you!

This restaurant was very clean and inviting. We were greater upon entering, and the waiter (Hosea)was very informative and willing to make suggestions as well as explaining the menu to us, considering it was our first visit there. He was very attentive to us, and that made for a pleasant visit. The next time we're in this city, we will be returning.

BEWARE!
This evening my hubby & I found Maru Sushi & Grill based on solid Google ratings.
We tried it out tonight for the 1st (& last) time.
For dinner I ordered the “7-fish, sashimi salad”.
I asked the waitress what types of fish were in it-but she was did not know. I asked if she could request to have it made without; eel, shrimp or yellowtail.
The sushi bar chef made a small platter of 8, fairly thinly-sliced pieces of fish (2 slices of each fish)-
a small amount food for an entree,
I asked the sushi chef if he had substituted the 3 fishes that I did not wan included. To my surprise the chef became argumentative & stated that he “can illuminate, but does not substitute”... Had I have been made aware of this policy earlier, I would have ordered something different from the menu.
However, as the chef reminded us, “the dish was already made.” As a 1-time courtesy, the chef agreed to the substitution-for an additional charge.
He added 6 additional thin slices of fish to my plate,
.
The “salad” consisted the equivalency of one, tablespoon of veggies (a small, diced mixture of; avocados, cucumbers, carrots, seaweed & tomatoes).
As a sushi-regular, I can tell you that the fish I received did not look like any sashimi that I had ordered before...Most of the fish appeared to have SEARED edges-& some of the fish slices were TWO-TONED IN COLOR!
Afraid of ruining a rare “date-nite”, I attempted to remain positive. I smiled & I engaged in conversation as I attempted to eat what was in front of me.
The overpoweringly “fishy” taste was simply not unpalatable-So I opted to move the food around the plate for the rest of our duration at Maru’s.
Eventually, my husband noted that I had hardly eaten. I then let him know my concern over the quality of the fish (it was stringy/“gristley” & fishy tasting/smelling),
.
Before leaving, I asked the waitress who the restaurant manager/owner was? only to be notified that the it was the sushi chef.
Since we had already experienced the argumentative /defensive side to this man, we opted to simply pay our bill, photograph my dish & leave quietly.
I do hope that this review saved someone else from a ruined date-night—or serious stomach troubles.
